Q. What materials are suitable for CO2 laser cutting machines?
CO2 laser cutting machines are suitable for cutting and engraving non-metallic materials, such as: Wood (plywood, density board, etc.), Acrylic (PMMA), Plastics (such as ABS, PE, PVC), Cloth, leather, Cardboard, paper, Rubber, Engraving on glass surfaces (no deep cutting)
Note: not suitable for direct cutting of metal materials, but some models can mark or process thin metal surfaces (the effect is not as good as fiber laser cutting).
Q. What is the service life of a CO2 laser tube? Can it be replaced?
The normal service life of a CO2 glass laser tube is generally 2,000-10,000 hours, depending on the power, frequency of use, and cooling system.
Yes, it can be replaced, and the replacement cost is generally moderate.
It is recommended to regularly check whether the cooling system (such as water cooling device) is operating normally to extend the life.
Q. Will the laser cutting edge burn?
Whether it is burnt depends on:
Material type (such as acrylic edge can be melted smooth, but wood is easy to carbonize)
Cutting parameter settings (power, speed, frequency)
Gas assist (some models support air or nitrogen assist to reduce the burnt edge)
note: Reasonable parameter adjustment can effectively reduce the phenomenon of burnt edge.
Q. Is it necessary to install a dedicated smoke exhaust device?
Yes, a smoke exhaust system or a filtration system must be installed.
Smoke and odor will be generated during cutting, especially when cutting acrylic, leather or plastic.
It is recommended to equip an external fan or activated carbon filter to ensure environmental protection and health.
Q. How to choose the power of CO2 laser cutting machine?
Common power ranges include: 40W, 60W, 80W, 100W, 150W, 180W, etc.
Mainly for engraving: 40W~80W is recommended
Cutting acrylic and wood: 100W or more is recommended
Deep cutting or high-efficiency production is required: choose 150W+
Q. Is special maintenance or care required?
Yes, regular maintenance is important:
Clean the lens and reflector regularly (to avoid laser loss)
Check if the laser tube is leaking water/air
Check if the optical path is offset
Ensure the normal operation of the fan and cooling water pump
Maintenance cycle recommendation: weekly simple inspection, monthly deep maintenance
Q. Can CO2 laser be used to cut metal?
Not recommended. CO2 laser has high reflectivity to metal, poor cutting effect and low efficiency.
If cutting metal, it is recommended to use a fiber laser cutting machine.
In some cases, it can be marked or processed with very thin metal films, but deep cutting is not allowed.
Q. Will laser cutting affect the physical properties of the material?
Generally, it will not affect the overall structure of the material, and there will only be a heat-affected zone (HAZ) at the edge.
For most applications (signage, crafts, packaging industry, etc.), the impact can be ignored.
For industries that require high-precision performance (such as medical devices), cold processing technology or fiber laser processing is recommended.
